Florida natives Joy Foglietta and Taylor Craig befriended each other in middle school and dated for a while in high school. “We complement each other very well,” Joy says. “I am silly and loud. Taylor is more cool and collected.” By the end of high school they went their separate ways, only to be reunited after college, as Joy was grieving the death of her mother. “Taylor was by my side every step of the way through that,” Joy says. They remained together for a decade before Taylor finally popped the question.

“We love everything about Newport: Its charm, amazing seafood (really, all food!), beautiful views and nautical, historic feel — it really has it all.”

Germany Can Wait

“Taylor wanted our engagement to be a surprise, which wasn’t easy after being together so long,” Joy recalls. The day he was supposed to fly to Germany for work, she turned around and found him on bended knee, asking for her hand in marriage. After many tears and calls to family, Taylor said he wanted to share the news with Joy’s parents. The pair drove to the cemetery, and under beautiful blue skies, shared their joy with Anthony and Pamela Foglietta. “It was something I will never forget,” says Joy.

The Inn Crowd

Both the ceremony and reception were held at Castle Hill Inn, where Taylor had taken Joy on her first trip to Newport. “We loved the view overlooking Narragansett Bay with the boats going by and knew we wanted to get married there,” says Joy, who wore an A-line wedding gown with a corset top, and let her bridesmaids choose different blush chiffon dresses.

Going to the Dogs

The couple planted a custom road sign at the reception showing the distance to all the places their families had traveled from. The guest book was a picture book about Rhode Island, which now sits proudly on their coffee table. And the three-tier wedding cake had a little Yale bulldog peering out of the bottom in honor of Taylor’s alma mater.

Where Are They Now?

After a honeymoon in Bora Bora and New Zealand, the couple returned to Florida, where Joy is an attorney and Taylor works in yacht sales.
