“We wanted to say our vows overlooking the water, outdoors, and Newport has beautiful views of the ocean. When we reached Rosecliff, we knew it was the place.”

Bonding while studying at MIT in 2011, Xinzhu Wang, from Oak Ride, TN, and Andrew Yoon, from Hong Kong, became close friends. Andrew graduated when Xinzhu had another year left, but their friendship provided a strong foundation for romance to grow. Finally, in 2017, when the couple was visiting Europe, Andrew enlisted a waiter to present an engagement ring in a Venetian cafe.  – JC

East Meets West
The couple merged elements of their cultural traditions with the seaside setting of Rosecliff and Newport. Hors d’oeuvres featured Asian BBQ pork sliders with kimchi slaw paired with the coastal cuisine of littlenecks, oysters and shrimp. Xinzhu hid a red rose in her bouquet, representing good luck and prosperity in Chinese culture. The bride also followed Chinese customs, changing from her blush, peony embroidered gown into a striking red silk qipao dress, flared at the bottom with intricately embroidered love birds, purchased in Shanghai. Their cake topper was a couple wearing traditional Chinese and Korean costumes to represent the bride and groom.

Table Tops
Xinzhu and Andrew decided to name their tables rather than using numbers to identify seating assignments. Using adjectives, they gave each table a personality, including “Presidential,” “Joyful” and “Beautiful.” They placed pictures of themselves on the table behaving like that table’s adjective. Playful and endearing photos of the couple in their youth helped convey a sense of family and allowed guests to get to know them a little better.

Nerves of Endearment
The couple performed a traditional Sand Ceremony to symbolize unity. As they began, Andrew poured slower than Xinzhu and she finished before he did. In a panic, Andrew rushed to catch up, spilling sand onto the grass. Later, when cutting the cake, the couple pushed too hard and broke the knife.

Where are they now?
The newlyweds honeymooned in Bora Bora then returned home to Quincy, MA. Xinzhu is a product manager at Wayfair and Andrew works as a portfolio manager at Putnam Investments.
