Creative Concoctions

It’s only natural to want the most important day of your life to stand out from the crowd. The first place to tackle this challenge is at the bar. Barbara Behan Howlett of Glorious Affairs Catering says signature drinks are always well received, and many guests have come to expect them. There’s no right or wrong method to choosing them. Behan Howlett recalls a groom who served a traditional Pimm’s Cup, but renamed it the “Game Set Match,” perfect for the Tennis Hall of Fame as their venue. Typically, the caterer can create an entirely new drink, personalized to the couple and event. Of the more unique options Glorious Affairs has originated, they’ve used a Spicy Pineapple with infused sweet chili and the Watermelon-tini with fresh watermelon puree. When concocting a signature drink, Behan Howlett starts off by asking what the bride and grooms’ favorite drinks are when they’re out at the bar. From there, she asks for the color scheme and theme of the wedding: “Is the theme Old Fashioned Glam where we would suggest vintage cocktails such as a French 75, or a Singapore Sling, or a Stork Club Cocktail? And would they like the drink color to match the wedding decor colors?” These answers lead the experts to a creation all your own- just tack on a catchy name and your guests will have your wedding on the tips of their tongues. -RT
