“Newport has so much to offer! The ocean is nearby and it has that New England charm.”

Julie Roper & Nathaniel Mireau on August 21, 2016

In the fall of their senior year at Michigan State University, Wolverine state natives Julie Roper and Nate Mireau were assigned the same marketing project. Julie mustered up the courage to flirt when she asked him how to pronounce his name, which is now an inside joke. On an epic fun-filled first date, Nate took Julie out for dinner, salsa dancing and drinks and “was the perfect gentleman.” After graduation, they were both offered jobs at the same company in West Kingston, and continued their relationship for three years. On a sunny day in August 2015, in Block Island for Nate’s birthday, they laid a blanket on the sandy beach facing the sea, and Nate said how much he loved Julie, with a ring. As soon as her voice caught up with her heart, the bride-to-be happily said yes. -LR

Natural Beauty

The couple styled their wedding after the beauty of the vineyard. They chose mulberry red and soft green for the color scheme to reflect their surroundings along with gold accents to complement the deep brown rustic wood in their reception space.

Local Cuisine

The menu included Rhode Island favorites, such as crab cakes and miniature lobster rolls. They also served various wines from Newport Vineyards and beer from the groom’s favorite local brewery, Gray Sail of Westerly.

Sweet Tooth

In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, the Mireaus offered a variety of desserts, including brownies, cookies and the guests’ favorite, cheesecake squares!

Track Star

Just before the ceremony, Julie remembered that the rings were still in the bridal suite. Her all-star maid of honor ran back to save the day. “I have never seen someone run so fast in high heels!”

Where are They Now

After a tranquility-filled honeymoon in Jamaica, the newlyweds returned to their home in Newport. Recently they relocated to Fort Myers, Florida and adopted a rescue dog they named Cadia after one of their favorite places, Acadia National Park.
