Kaitlyn & Tristan

We both grew up on the Sakonnet River and we knew it would be the perfect place to say our vows and bring our families full circle.

Although Portsmouth natives Kaitlyn Rose and Tristan Mouligne grew up in the same town and attended Elmhurst Elementary School, they didn’t meet until 2008 while working in Boston. “We put our Portsmouth connection together,” says the bride. “Tristan asked me out on a date and the rest is history!” In 2015, Tristan sailed solo in the Bermuda 1-2, and Kaitlyn flew down to celebrate with him. While at Fort St. Catherine overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the groom-to-be unexpectedly produced some bling and a question. “Tristan had tied the ring to his bathing suit and had even went swimming with it!” Kaitlyn remembers. “So I had no idea he was about to propose.” –TS

French Connection

The bride fell in love with the Glen Manor House while attending her sister’s wedding, but the venue held another special meaning for the couple. “Tristan’s family is French, so the beautiful chateau overlooking the Sakonnet River, the place we grew up, was an easy choice.”

Family Affair

When choosing their officiant, the couple didn’t have to look any further than the groom’s father, Peter Mouligne, who was ordained for the sole purpose of marrying the betrothed. As a nod to her family, the bride’s tied bouquet, featuring blush peonies, white hydrangea, and Queen Anne’s lace with succulent accents, was finished with antique lace handed down from her great-great grandmother.

Personal Details

Instead of numbers to identify the reception tables, the couple used names with special meanings. For example: Samba (Tristan’s sailboat); Bermuda (where they got engaged); BVI (their honeymoon destination). Cruisin’ by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis played as the newlyweds swayed to their first dance. They chose this song to reflect their favorite pastime of frequently “cruising” on their sailboat to Martha’s Vineyard, Cuttyhunk and Block Island.

Where are They Now

After chartering a boat to the British Virgin Islands, the couple returned to their Middletown home, where Kaitlyn works at Deutsche Bank and Tristan at Morgan Stanley.
