Cranston native Stephanie Izzi and San Diego-bred Nicolas Heller met through an online dating site while both attending graduate school at Stony Brook University on Long Island. The two immediately bonded over their love of science and nature, which led them to an off-campus date at the Hayden Planetarium in New York City. “We fell in love under the stars, almost,” Stephanie laughs. After three years of dating, Nick chose the beautiful Conservatory Garden in Central Park to propose. The couple celebrated with champagne and chocolate-making lessons, then ended the star-studded evening with tango lessons. –SK

Instant Chemistry

The Kay Chapel ceremony included a special science experiment: The bride and groom each held a flask of different, colorless elemental combinations they poured together to create a bright blue solution, which represented the joining of the couple’s separate lives into something special together.

The Science of Love

Guests found their seats from a chart designed like a Periodic Table and enjoyed test tubes of M&M’s. The boutonnieres were made with Craspedia flowers arranged to look like atoms, while beakers and flasks held bright centerpieces.

The Rings

Both Stephanie and Nick made recordings of their vows and had each other’s soundwaves engraved on their rings. “It looks lovely, and it’s like wearing each other’s voices,” says Stephanie.

Where Are They Now

The Ph.D. graduates are planning a future exotic honeymoon in Costa Rica while they continue their life together in Warwick, RI where Stephanie works as a speech-language pathologist and Nick is a Ph.D. candidate in materials science.
