Not even an ocean could prevent the union of Edwin Lisle and Anna Sozonenko. Edwin grew up in Clarinda, a southern town of Iowa and moved to Newport to work as a medical equipment sales manager. Anna, who is from Chelyabinsk, Russia, moved to the City by the Sea to work with the Village House Nursing Home. After multiple visits to the Village House for work, Edwin finally built up the courage to ask Anna out. The couple recounts Edwin’s proposal as “one of the smartest decisions of his life!” The location of the wedding had to be the Hyatt Regency Newport, Anna’s dream destination since living here. –SK

Apropos Cuisine

The couple took advantage of their proximity to the sea with delectable appetizers, such as apple wood smoked bacon scallops, shrimp with chive cream cheese, and crabmeat and avocado profiteroles. One of the entrée options was a light citrus and dill rubbed grilled salmon fillet. The savory night ended on a sweet note with a simple yet elegant chocolate mocha cake.

Going the Distance

The couple recalls the challenge of having guests travel from all over the world, but the effort was extremely special. More than anything the couple wanted their friends and family to experience the very place they fell in love.

Special Touches

Guests received two very thoughtful keepsakes: a personalized bottle of wine from Newport Vineyards and a Newport welcome bag filled with Russian souvenirs.

Where are they now?

After another seaside destination honeymoon in St. Kitts, the pair returned to their beloved Newport to continue their work and lives with their son Frederick Alexei.
