“Ochre Court is a gorgeous locale,” Sean says.
“And the Cliff Walk is one of our favorite spots around town.”

Maybe it was a sign when Sarah Rodgers, who grew up in Tiverton, met her future groom when she was dressed head to toe in white — tennis whites, that is. On a summer’s eve in 2009 when she and a friend strolled into Café Zelda for a post-game bite, she met, and eventually traded numbers with, Newporter Sean McNeill and made plans for their first date. “She said she would cook her ‘husband-winning chicken’ dish,” remembers Sean. “The night ended early but we got together again a week later and that date sealed our destiny.” Fast-forward to 2014 when a trip away, and Sean’s proposal plans, were washed out by weather. After an exhausting trip home, the hungry couple was greeted by an empty fridge and decided to dine out. “Standing in our kitchen before heading out I presented the ring that had been burning a hole in my pocket,” Sean says. Because he had said many times that he would never get married, once the unsuspecting bride to be took a moment to process Sean’s question, she gladly accepted with a resounding “Yes!” The chicken dish worked its magic after all.
Bright hues
A “Summer Fun” theme directed the vibrant color palette. The bridesmaids donned Donna Morgan silk chiffon in raspberry from Andria Bird Bride, while the men popped sunshine yellow accents on their ties, socks and boutonnières.
As a professional florist, the bride designed all of the event’s elegant arrangements, which included hydrangeas, roses and dahlias, to reflect the bold color scheme. The bride’s and mother-of-the-bride’s friends assembled the pieces, adding an even more personal touch to the decor.
The cake
Fatulli’s Gourmet Bakery and Deli created a sugary three-tier tower out of a lemon and raspberry cakes, decorated with bright flowers to complement the wedding’s theme and color scheme.
Groom’s Favorite Memory
“For me it was seeing Sarah walking down the aisle under the summer sun,” says Sean. “She’d never
looked more beautiful.”
Where are they now?
After spending their wedding night aboard the yacht Tortuga, the couple honeymooned on Block Island before returning home to Newport, where Sarah is a florist and Sean is a freelance writer in the sailing industry.
