It’s been a whirlwind romance for Erin Fair and Patrick Ryan, who went from acquaintances at University of Notre Dame, to close friends after graduation in New York, to a happy couple in Boston and – at last! – newlyweds in Middletown, where the bride’s parents, Sheila and James Fair, spend each summer.
With great-grandparents who started the tradition on Easton’s Point in the early 1900s, Erin has countless memories in the City-by-the-Sea. After the proposal on Sachuest Point, the couple exchanged vows under an arbor draped with green and white hydrangeas facing the apple orchards at Sweet Berry Farm. “I had been going for years for goodies and berry picking, and the gorgeous westward views and perfectly manicured lawn fit the bill exactly,” the bride raves.
In a ruffled surplice Aria gown in dove silk shantung, the bride’s classic look didn’t prevent her from lounging in Adirondack chairs or playing croquet. In a celebration that combined nautical colors with pops of lime green, 180 guests danced under Japanese lanterns after savoring a traditional New England lobster bake with plenty of drawn butter. They left with elegant wine glasses featuring the couple’s initials – a logo the bride’s brother designed – but not before tasting the buttercream and strawberry cake topped with fresh-picked strawberries from the farm. “It was a dream! We wanted a fun and classic lobster bake with lawn games, dark n’ stormies and lots of personality,” she says. After a picture perfect day, the couple honeymooned in Croatia before returning to their South Boston home.
