The daily commute on Metro North became an adventure of an altogether different kind for Kristy Sott and Jamie Kennedy. Both living in New York commuting to Stamford, Connecticut, for work, a simple smile led the two to strike up a conversation on the crowded train, and within a few business days, the two singles were traveling together.
Throughout their courtship, the couple frequently traveled to Block Island, so once Jamie popped the question over a candle-lit dinner on their patio, it was a shoo-in for their wedding. “We wanted to share one of our favorite places with our family and friends,” Kristy says, “And Sullivan House is the ultimate reception location on Block Island, with water views on all sides. It is a gorgeous site and encapsulated the laid-back, Block Island feel that we wanted.”
And that’s exactly what they got. With a navy and lime green color scheme, the couple kept it simple with white and green hydrangeas for the bouquets and tables, and colorful Chinese lanterns swinging from the tent on the Sullivan House’s waterfront lawn. Kristy’s “something new and something blue” was a pair of blue topaz and diamond earrings Jamie gave to her for the big day.
Despite a light mist that blanketed the island that day, the happy couple didn’t let anything dampen their mood. Floating down the aisle at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in a Monique Lhullier “Kennedy” gown (“Really, it was not named for us!” Kristy says), the new bride took a stroll to the nearby beach with her new husband, bright blue and white umbrella in hand, to share a quiet moment together.
The 165 guests dined and danced all night. “Other than seeing Jamie when I walked down the aisle, the best moment was one of the last songs at the reception. I looked around to see all of my best friends and family having a great time on the dance floor with us. Everyone was smiling and happy. It was a memory I will never forget.” The couple honeymooned in Tahiti and Bora Bora and returned to their home in Greenwich, Connecticut.
